Marketing OKR example

An objective a marketing team can own for a quarter, with key results that measure pipeline, not activity.

The goal

Make marketing the main source of qualified pipeline

Due the end of the quarter; check in weekly. Numbers are examples - change them to yours.

MetricTargetWhy this number
Marketing-qualified leads
Each check-in adds an amount
120 leads a monthThe output sales actually feels. A monthly quota shows each month whether you hit it, not just the quarter's total.
Visitor-to-signup rate
Each check-in is the new reading
1.8% → 3%Traffic is cheap to inflate; conversion shows whether the site and offer work.
Organic search visits
Each check-in is the new reading
8,000 visits/month → 12,000 visits/monthThe channel that keeps paying after the quarter ends.
Cost per lead
Each check-in is the new reading
$85 → $60 (should go down)A key result that should go down - spending more to hit the lead number shouldn't count as a win.

GoalNexa forecasts each metric from its check-ins and gives the goal a health badge - on track, at risk or off track - long before the end of the quarter.

Metrics:
- Marketing-qualified leads (unit: leads): target 120 leads per month, amounts added up
- Visitor-to-signup rate (unit: %): start 1.8%, target 3%, latest reading

Check-ins weekly. Show me the draft before creating it, and let me change the numbers.

In the app

  1. Create your free account and pick "Website" in the first-run steps (or "New goal" on the dashboard).
  2. Add the goal "Make marketing the main source of qualified pipeline" with its date, then its 4 metrics - start, target and unit as above. For an amount that adds up, set "Each check-in is" to "An amount to add to the total"; for a target per week or month, set "Target is for".
  3. Set each metric's check-in schedule to "Weekly" so reminders keep the numbers current.

Tips

  • Check in every Monday from last week's numbers - the forecast needs a few readings before it says much.
  • Leads come from your CRM? Post them to the metric's check-in URL from a scheduled script instead of typing them.
  • Keep 3-4 key results. Five or more and the goal's progress stops meaning anything.
